Or prefer to keep your emulation options in one place on your PC

Also is great to finally toss out trash ISO mounting software. >you are too retarded to use real emulatorsĪs someone who used standalone emus for 12 years (some of them completely abandoned) I'm glad to centralize most cores in one place than fiddling with half a dozen different emus and remembering different settings. Nigger that shit has been sidelined for years. >161510 >The PS3-style XMB interface is absolute cancer This is mainly a problem with MAME and other arcade emulators, and maybe Wonderswan, not sure. Playback was only ever an issue on a per-emulator basis. But they recently fixed it so you actually can more easily add hacks and translations to playlists, as it was a common complaint. Start directory goes directly to a list of folders for each system, and I don't give a fuck that I'm missing out on thumbnails, boxart, and shit because all I want to do is play games, not look at them. I set mine up with a ZSNES-inspired RGUI theme to just have quick menu, load content, settings, shutdown, reboot, and information or some shit. I don't use playlists, so I don't have any issues there. >161510 >you're only emulating common games, not fan translations or ROMhacks And some games that use other CJK Windows encodings. Lutris I guess, but that's for Linux and I would prefer not dealing with that bullshit as I would be installing a lot of Japanese games with Shift JIS filenames. I'm not about to bother with Launchbox or anything though, and I don't know of many alternatives. I think it is somewhat worth the time though, I like the idea of playing some of my PC games on my TV on an airgapped Windows machine using some sort of kiosk setup. Main benefit of Retroarch over standalones launched by a frontend is it really makes it easier for unified controls via gamepad unless you're going to spend a shit ton of time pre-configuring every game or use Steam or some other proprietary shit. Emuboxes run Retroarch, consoles run a mix of standalone hackjobs and Retroarch, and PC runs standalone because it's better for mouse-driven interface. I use both standalone emulators and Retroarch on different hardware. Obviously standalone emulators are better for desktop PC. Some that do more than Libretro are still kicking now, but they're generally the same gamepad-driven design. There have been other frontends but the developers of those tend to give up. Ozone is much better but mouse-driven GUI could still use work (it's shit). You don't have to use their shitty frontend, it's just the only supported way sadly. If your goal is to make a DIY console or run emulators on a hacked console, Libretro is excellent. >161498 >There's absolutely no reason for anyone to ever use RetroArch! >161507 >Do you think Mednafen is better as an all-in-one emulator compared to Libretro/Retroarch, assuming you know the command line?

Was comfy even though I only used an old System 7 or so Mac a handful of times.

I used Basilisk II to install a nostalgic edutainment game I found a copy of on ebay and dumped. They work fine, and there's no reason for them not to. >you're only emulating common games, not fan translations or ROMhacks What are you even talking about? You mean like ricing? Why the shit would I want to do that? You can't be talking about tweaking emulation settings since Retroarch does, and has always supported that. Hell, I've used standalone emulators that didn't even support integer scaling. Both are only available exclusively as a libretro cores. Both forks support overclocking for higher framerates, and higher internal resolutions. Their fork of mednafen, Beetle PSX, supports widescreen and higher internal resolutions. ParaLLEl, Retroarch's Mupen64Plus fork is not only more optimized, but has superior A/V sync and latency, and an exclusive LLE Vulkan renderer based on Angrylion. That simply isn't true, and in some cases even the opposite. >You can get better standalone programs with better emulation This is just the same thing twice, and is only an argument if standalone emulators have some kind of advantage. >161510 >you are too retarded to use real emulators >you're a normalnigger who can't into computers
